There are three different courses available over a number of dates.
Coroner's Law and the Bereaved (CLB)
A 2 week course with an introduction to Coroner's law, death certification and registration, issues such as religious and cultural perspectives of death, ethical practice, effective communication etc. Click here for a flyer and application form.
Fundamental Medicine for the Coroner Service (FMCS)
A two week course dealing with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diseases and procedures and their potential complications in the context of sudden death and referral to the Coroner Click here for a flyer and application form
Medico-legal death investigation (MLDI)
A two week course, looking at effective death investigation on behalf of HM Coroner, it deals with the role of staff gathering information for the Coroner, pathologists and inquests. Click here for a flyer and application form

The Institute of Civil Defence and Disaster Studies (ICDDS) is holding a conference, as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations, in association with the Emergency Management Portal. Entitled 'From Civil Defence to Civil Protection and Beyond - Facing the Evolving Challenge of Disaster Management', this conference will examine the advancement of Civil Defence as a means of offsetting the threat and consequence of disaster. Through distinguished guest speakers, including an introduction by Patrick Mercer MP, and its own eminent members, the Institute will:
- illustrate the development of the ICDDS in civil protection
- illuminate the advancement of Integrated Emergency Management as the principal emergency planning ethos in the UK
- consider the challenges faced by the London Fire Brigade in planning for fires on the underground and in countering new-age threats
- explain the current framework supporting regional resilience planning
This event will be at Camden Town Hall, near St Pancras and Kings Cross Stations in London on Thursday 5/6/2008. Price £85 (£55 for ICDDS and IEM members).
